Holidays, the sun has finally started shining or the snow is falling – we are in the UK after all – what more could we want? Well if the press is to be believed… parents just want their kids back at school. According to a recent radio report on Five Live, 2 out of 5 parents are alleged to have said that the cost of childcare is too expensive during the holidays.
Locally to us, the cost of childcare provision during the school holidays ranges from around £55 per week (9:15-3:30) Monday to Friday to around £30 per day which adds up to around £150 per week – the top end is longer wrap around care. Taking into account this does not include providing a pack lunch and costs can really mount up.
The questions seems to be around the lack of enough provision and some of the press reports have been trying to put the responsibility back on the local authority for care costs.
